Europacup Rails Antwerpen – RECAP

EUROPACUP RAILS – RECAP

Finally we’ve found some time to write a recap of our huge event to start off the season!
The Europacup Rails!
Read to find all photos, articles and video from the contest.
For us this was a very big and major event to host, definitly in the beginning of our winterseason when all of our coaching activities are getting started.
We grabbed the opportunity and started building an event that made an impact on the entire (European) snowboard community.

A monstrous setup

Created by a coöperation between our sponsors, our XBrigade Team and with the help of our precious volunteers and Snowworld Antwerp!

A huge media campaign

One week of commercials and promotion on national radio, a livestream of the event, a social media campaign and 100 press releases sent.

A gigantic event planning

Organise the official FIS competition, making arrangements with the indoor slope, coordinate logistics, sponsorfiles, financial control

We somehow managed to pull this of on a short notice with the help of an incredible team of volunteers that all need a BIG THANK YOU!!! AGAIN!!!
Offcourse none of the results below was possible without the help of our sponsors, supporters and partners that helped us out

THANK YOU

AND THIS WAS THE RESULT!

A diverse audience of riders and spectators

With over 60 registrations for the competition, we were able to draw the attention of riders from countries like Austria, France, Czech republic, Great Britain, Poland, Netherlands and Danmark.
They all travelled to Antwerp on the 27th of september for a spectacular day of riding the custom setup!
A diverse and international judgesteam was also present to score the runs of the riders, some of them are even judging the next olympic games!

A vibrant afternoon of high level riding

Once the ice was broken and the first riders shredded the setup, the show really started! What first seemed an untamable setup, soon became the playground for skiërs and snowboarders that were throwing tricks as if this was the funslope!
From mellow and ‘safe’ 50-50’s to 270in 270out and rail transfers, the sky was the limit! Riders were now battling for the 3000€ prizemoney that was at stake and forgot about the 14m of metal and heavy kinks that seperated them from the podium!

Judges had the hardest job ever to decide if this neck-breaking trick was even harder than the insane hammer that happened just before? Deciding who would ride the finals of this competition, and believe me, this is a though job! Eventually they managed to rank up a posse that would ride the finals of the Stairway To Heaven. The finals were a head to head knockout battle where the best rider would advance.

The audience was able to get up close to the action and access the slope to watch the Stairway Battle from up close! From the ‘Piste-bar’ they had a nice overview that was a little bit warmer, and for those that weren’t able to join us in Antwerp we provided a LIVE STREAM of the full event!
This resulted in a couple 100 people with feet in the snow, about the same amount in the bar and the livestream maxing out on +/-1400 views. One of the biggest crowds for an indoor freestyle snowsports competition in BENELUX.

After a breathtaking final where the riders completely destroyed the setup they returned to the warmth of the bar for the pricegiving ceremony to finish of the day! The overall vibe from many of the riders was ‘hyped’, the setup was tough but lived up to the European ‘Street style’ standards that the FIS was aiming for, and set a bar for future events. It came early in the season and was definitly high level, but the finalists proved that it was totally ridable!

We, as a sportsclub running on volunteers and driven by the support of a lowlands snow community, were very happy how the contest turned out.
We all had a great day of riding and cheering on riders which is why we organised this event in the first place! We hope you enjoyed this as much as we did and we hope to repeat this next year…
